Summer Camp Medical Exams

When: Wednesday, April 9, 2008, and Wednesday, April 16, 2008
7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (before and during the troop meeting)
Who: Scouts planning to attend summer camp (no adult Leaders)
What: Our troop physician, Dr. Donna Randolph, will conduct free camp medical exams again this year. This is for Scouts who are well, without serious or acute health problems. A parent/guardian must accompany the Scout, and Dr. Randolph needs a copy of the Scout’s current immunization (shot) record. Dr. Randolph will also complete most sports medical forms for scouts.
Where: Scout Room #116 at St. Stephen's
Bring: BSA Class 3 Medical Form with the Scout’s medical history and immunization record already entered on the form. Please attach a copy of the Scout’s current immunization (shot) record, and a copy of the medical insurance ID (both sides) for both the Scout and the sponsor (usually a parent). Lastly, parents need to sign the BSA Class 3 Medical Form.

Note: the BSA Class 3 Medical Form will be available in advance at troop meetings, and it can be downloaded from our troop website: http://www.bsatroop1131.org.

Slide Show - Phil's Europe Trip

When: Saturday, April 12, 2008, 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Who: Friends and Scouters, older children welcome
What: Enjoy a slide show and a fascinating tale of adventure. Hear Philip Sternberg tell the story of his experiences at Scouting's 100th Anniversary World Jamboree in England, and hear his story of exciting travels around Europe (Scotland, Norway, Turkey, Greece and Italy). The evening program will start with a slide show of the Jamboree, a break for snacks and drinks, and then finish with a slide show of the Europe trip.

Second Class Five-Mile Hike

When: Noon, Sunday, April 13, 2008, from St. Stephen's
Return 5:00 p.m., to St. Stephen's
Who: Scouts and Troop Guides, Parents and Friends Welcome
What: We’ll hike around Burke Lake Park to complete the Second Class five mile hike requirement, and we’ll complete other advancement requirements along the way.
Where: Burke Lake Park, Virginia
Bring: Pocket knife, compass, lunch in a sack, water bottle, sun screen, hat, insect repellent..
Cost: None, but bring money for McDonald’s or Pizza Hut after the hike.

Patriot Disrict Spring Camporee

When: Leave St. Stephen's Friday, April 25, 2008, 4:30 p.m.
Return to St. Stephen's Sunday, April 27, 2008, 12:30 p.m.
Who: All Scouts and Leaders
What: The theme for the Spring Camporee is “Be Prepared” for Emergencies.
Scouts will have the opportunity to work on a variety of merit badges, including: Emergency Preparedness, First Aid, Fire Safety and Wilderness Survival. The staff plans to set up five stations that patrols will rotate through:

Emergency Preparedness Overview
First Aid
Disaster Response and Coordination
Fire Safety/Firefighting
Outdoor Survival

The Camporee includes Patrol Cooking and Camping. New Scouts will pass several important outdoor Advancement Requirements for Tenderfoot and Second Class.
Where: Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship

Bring: Wear your troop t shirt, bring your class “A” uniform shirt for ceremonies. Bring normal camping equipment, rain gear, cup, bowl, spoon, insect repellant, sun screen, extra clothing. Wear boots or sturdy shoes and bring a pair of sneakers to change into, if your shoes/boots get wet. The troop’s packing list is on our web site at:
