Raven Knob 2002

Report # 3

Troop 1131,
We've settled into the routine at camp now. Yesterday afternoon, we experienced dry thunder and lightning, but only a little bit of rain. The camp shut down free evening swim, but we completed our troop rifle shooting activities. Some of our scouts shot rifles for the first time in their lives last night! We have some excellent marksmen too. A couple of our new scouts took turns hitting a little spinning disk. One scout would spin it in one direction with his shot, then the other spun it in the opposite direction.
Ryan Kavanaugh completed small boat sailing merit badge; he had most of the requirements done before arriving at Raven Knob. The waterfront staff worked with him after dinner to finish up the badge. Matt Wolfe completed his Second Class Board of Review, and several other scouts are almost ready for boards.
Some of our new scouts have had a touch of home sickness, but recovery is well underway. Today, we will have lunch and dinner in our campsite. Our famous "Troop 1131 TACO BAR" is the hit of the week for most of our boys. The camp is expecting local troop families to visit and participate in the evening campfire and Order of the Arrow ceremony. I am very pleased with our Junior Leaders this summer. Bryan Burley, Andy Galvin and all of the Patrol Leaders are taking their jobs seriously.
By the way, all email messages to earthlink.net have failed for the past several days. Not sure what's going on.
