Raven Knob 2002

Report # 4

Troop 1131,
Happy Independence Day! I'll tell you a secret. My wedding anniversary was July 4, 1968; that's the day I lost my independence. The troop had it's famous Taco Bar for dinner last night, and all agreed, it was the best meal by far. Tonight we'll make my special black forest cobler and vanilla ice cream, a very special treat. Scouts taking camping, wilderness survival and off road programs will be on overnights out of the camp site. So they won't have the cobler. Too bad.
Nathan Sherrard joined us yesterday. He's one of our college age Eagle scouts. Like all 19 year olds, he wanted to sleep in this morning! He missed the Polar Bear swim. I woke the rest of the troop up at 6:00 a.m. to go down to the lake. Everyone had a great time. We missed having Ryan Weaver with us though. No one offers the challenges to the new scouts in the shallow water that Ryan has in the past.
One new event this year is the construction of a "FUN BOX." Andy Neal and Andrew Marsh had some free time. They built a small log shelter covered with tarps in under an hour. The boys sit around and tell stories in the box.
We're up to three boards of review. Correy Crawford passed his First Class board, Calvin Sauerbier passed his Tenderfoot board, and Matt Wolfe passed his Second Class board. Lot's of other advancement
requirements has also taken place.
Have fun watching fireworks tonight. We won't have any; the drought is very bad in North Carolina, and camp has a strict fire ban in place. Poor Andrew Marsh, our resident fire bug, is so unhappy!
